The truth is, dealing with large private industry can be at least as frustrating as dealing with the government. The government can be corrupted—but nowhere near as easily as private industry. The government can be an incompetent, blundering giant, but we can find a few of those in private industry as well. The government has no monopoly on incompetence.

What I think this misses is that Government by definition is a monopoly, so when it is incompetent, you have no other choice.  By contrast, when businesses are incompetent, there is always the chance that a competing business will come along and offer something better, and indeed, this almost always happens, so long as the Government doesn’t put obstacles in the way.  (Don’t like Blogger?  Use Tumblr!)

When businesses are incompetent, they can’t coerce you to accept the incompetence.  When businesses are incompetent, they can’t continue to fund their impotence by simply taking large portions of your income.  These things aren’t just important … they are everything.
